Marc Andreessen  helped develop an internet browser called Mosaic. The browser allowed for the use of images, text, hypertext and graphical links to be used on the one web page. The Mosaic browsing software was created by Marc and a team while he was working at the University of Illinois and when he wanted to improve the software he decided to start a new internet company.

He contacted old friends from the national center of supercomputing applications (NCSA) group who he worked with at the University to start the company. His goal was to create a better software than Mosaic and seeming that it was created under University founding the new software would have to be created from scratch.

when Microsoft's Internet Explorer came into use Netscape fell in use and later was bought for $10 billion in stock during 1999 by America Online.
